The Carrefour squad who were hoping to clean up in Bath in July 2017

Carrefour went on tour in late July and spend a brilliant weekend taking part in a tournament organised by the Bath Pétanque Club. It was called the Four Way competition because as well as ourselves and the host club two other teams took part, one from Suffolk, the other representing the Great Western Region. There were 8 teams of doubles from each squad, all playing 6 matches during the day. The home side topped with the table with 30 wins, with GWR second on 25 wins and Carrefour third on 21 wins, just pipping the Suffolk team on 20 wins. The whole competition was played in a competitive but also friendly way resulting in an invitation from the Suffolk captain to host the event next year. Quite apart from the pétanque there were lots of fun and games. The hotel we stayed at in Bristol wasn’t exactly luxurious but the pub across the road, the Coronation, made up for that – beer was only £2 a pint. Get in! One nice touch from the host club: an Italian chef rolled up to the Bath clubhouse in his mobile kitchen van and served freshly made pizzas with all the toppings.
